Kim Ohana – Survivors of Hibiscus Drive Fire

To my HFFA brothers and sisters, on behalf of our family,

I would like to thank everyone who was a part of the response and aftermath of the horrific Hibiscus Street tragedy.  It was a gargantuan effort to mitigate a truly frightening and unique incident which will certainly go down in the records as a historical moment in the State, let alone the City. Your bravery and hard work, despite the conditions, challenges, and threats of the incident, came just in time to allow the recovery of some valuables and personal effects in the days following, which was a great uplift to our spirits and helps us to have the strength to go on and rebuild.  It was a stark reminder to me as an officer, that swift action, no matter the appearance of conditions, can make all the difference, and although we may not be able to save everything and everyone, what’s important is what we can do, and who we can save. God’s  grace, mercy, peace, and blessings on not only those who responded, but all our brothers and sisters because we never know, at a moment’s notice, to who’s mother, father, brother, sister, or other family member we will respond to next.

Hayley Cerit (pictured above left with daughter Aloha) were among those whose homes were completely destroyed in the Hibiscus Drive Fire. She is the aunt of Capt. Paul Kim E35/2. He reports that Hayley, Aloha and their pets are fine and staying with family as they recover. Several homes were a total loss as a result of the fire. A GoFundMe has been created to help them get back on their feet. Any kokua will be greatly appreciated.
