Retired Honolulu Fire Fighter III Peter Gonsalves

The late FF Gonsalves passed away on October 16, 2023. He was appointed to the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) on February 24, 1975, and served 27 years 10 months. His last assignment was with Engine 17, 1st Platoon. Service was held on February 10, 2024 at the Bernice Pauahi Bishop Memorial Chapel located at 1887 Makuakane Street.

RETIRED HONOLULU FIRE FIGHTER STANTON PA

The late FF Pa passed away on December 24, 2023. He was appointed to the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) on January 5, 1970, and served 25 years. His last assignment was with Engine 22, 3rd Platoon. Service was held on January 30, 2024, at the Maunalua Bay Beach Park located at 6505 Kalanianaʻole Highway.

RETIRED Honolulu FIRE CAPTAIN RONALD SAI

The late Captain Sai passed away on November 6, 2023. He was appointed to the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) on June 16, 1962, and served 28 years 6 months. His last assignment was with Engine 39, 3rd Platoon. Service was at the Bernice Pauahi Bishop Memorial Chapel on January 13, 2024.

Retired Honolulu Fire Captain Antonio Pascua

The late Captain Pascua passed away on June 19, 2023. He was appointed to the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) on March 16, 1963, and served 35 years 4 months. His last assignment was with Engine 36, 1st Platoon. Service held at the Saint John Apostle & Evangelist Catholic Church located at 95-370 Kuahelani Avenue in Mililani.

Retired Honolulu Battalion Chief Daniel Mahiko

The late Chief Mahiko passed away on August 23, 2023. He was appointed to the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) on March 16, 1963, and served 31 years 8 months 14 days. His last assignment was with Battalion 2, 2nd Platoon. A Celebration of Life service was held at the Saint Louis Alumni Hall located in Moiliili.

The late FF Whittle passed away on September 1, 2023. He was appointed to the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) on February 24, 1975, and served 23 years 10 months. His last assignment was with Engine 2, 2nd Platoon. The scattering of ashes was held on October 8, 2023 at Kaaawa.

RETIRED Honolulu CAPTAIN RICHARD MACHADO

The late Captain Machado passed away on August 26, 2023. He was appointed to the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) on October 7, 1968, and served 30 years 2 months. His last assignment was with Ladder 26, 3rd Platoon. Service was held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Ewa Beach.

Retired Honolulu Captain Robert Lenchanko

The late Captain Lenchanko passed away on July 29, 2023. He was appointed to the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) on April 16, 1973, and served 33 years 11 months. His last assignment was with Engine 26, 2nd Platoon. Brother Lenchanko was laid to rest at the Hawaii State Veteran’s Cemetery in Kaneohe.

The late Fire Captain Crabbe passed away on August 11, 2023. He was appointed to the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) on February 1, 1957, and served 27 years 11 months. His last assignment was with Engine 29, 3rd Platoon.

Mogul was also among the founding members of the Hawaii Fire Fighters Association (HFFA), IAFF Local 1463. He served on the HFFA’s Executive Board in early 1963 and became the HFFA president in 1966, serving another two years until 1968. His HFFA successors continued to work on achieving the union’s first collective bargaining agreement (CBA), finalized 10 years later in 1973 after years of negotiations and arbitration. His achievement was celebrated at the HFFA 50th Anniversary held September 2014. He is remembered as a long-time friend, staunch supporter of HFFA, a loving father and grandfather.

FF1 Tre Evans-Dumaran passed away on February 4, 2023 while on duty. He was assigned to the Kihei Station on C Watch. An MFD Memorial was held on May 12 at the Kahului Station. Family and friends of Tre hosted “Live Like Tre Days” to celebrate Tre’s life through fun, family activities.

The late FF De Freitas passed away on May 31, 2023. He was appointed to the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) on October 1, 1965, and served 25 years 1 month. His last assignment was with Engine 11, 2nd Platoon. Service was held at Nuuanu Memorial Park Mortuary-West Chapel.

RETIRED Honolulu ASSISTANT CHIEF WAYNE NOJIRI

The late Chief Nojiri passed away on March 5, 2023. He was appointed to the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) on November 18, 1974, and served 31 years 10 months. His last assignment was with Fire Operations. Service was held on June 10, 2023 at Hosoi Garden Mortuary.

RETIRED Honolulu FF1 KEITH KAUWE

The late FF Kauwe passed away on April 4, 2023. He was appointed to the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) on October 16, 1971, and served 23 years 2 months. His last assignment was with Engine 27, 2nd Platoon. Service was held on June 13, 2023 at St. George Catholic Church.

The late Captain Ano passed away on April 12, 2023. He was appointed to the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) on July 1, 1964, and served 36 years. His last assignment was with Engine 34, 1st Platoon. Service was held May 19, 2023 at Oahu Cemetery Chapel.

RETIRED Honolulu FIRE CHIEF DONALD CHANG

The late Chief Chang passed away on March 12, 2023. He was appointed to the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) on October 1, 1957, and served 36 years 5 months. Fire Chief Chang also served HFFA during the early years from 1968-1969 as an Executive Board Member. Service was held on May 9, 2023, at the St. Elizabeth Catholic Parish. Burial held at Mililani Memorial Park.

RETIRED Honolulu FIRE CAPTAIN JUVENAL COITO, JR.

The late Captain Coito passed away on April 11, 2023. He was appointed to the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) on February 10, 1975, and served 32 years 9 months. His last assignment was with Engine 23, 2nd Platoon. Service was held on May 4, 2023 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

Honolulu ARFF Retiree William Kauahikaua

Passed away on February 24, 2023. Service was held on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Hawaii Kai Ward.

The late FF III Ernest Pablo passed away on February 17, 2023. He was appointed to the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) on June 1, 1969, and served 35 years. His last assignment was with Engine 23, 3rd Platoon. Service was held on March 24, 2023, at the Valley of the Temples Memorial Park-Lower Chapel located at 47-200 Kahekili Highway.
